On
Thursday, November 15, we invite you to participate in Family Reading
Night. This is a statewide event sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of
State and State Librarian, Jesse White, and the Illinois Center for the Book,
which encourages families to spend time reading with one another. Families
who read together build bonds, model successful habits, and support
intellectual growth.
Our
goal is for Field families
and families of staff to spend 20 or more minutes reading together on
November 15 at home, then share
out their experience on social media.
You can choose to read the same book or just in proximity of one another.
Snap a photo of
your experience and share
it out using #engageD64, #d64smiles,
and #FIfamiliessread18. You can also email your photo to cschaab@d64.org if you are not comfortable with social media.
Reading is part of our daily homework for
our students so why now join your children on Thursday night and read with them?
Families who participate will
receive a special bookmark from the Field LRC!
We’ll be using the #engageD64, #d64smiles, and #FIfamiliessread18 hashtags on Instagram, Twitter, and
Facebook (or emails) to send our bookmarks!
Looking for books to read as a family? Maybe take a visit to the Niles or Park Ridge Public Library and check out a Monarch Book or a Bluestem Book! Here's the list below:
We practiced our reading selfie last night and are excited for tonight!
